Automotive auctions are some of the most exciting events worldwide, and when it comes to big-ticket sales, cars usually steal the show. However, there have been several motorcycle sales that have grabbed headlines. Check out these most expensive motorcycles sold at different auctions across the world.

5. 1929 Brough Superior SS100 ‘Alpine Grand Sports’ – $497,000

In 2014, this model became the most expensive Brough motorcycle ever sold at auction when it was sold for a staggering $497,000, and although it was sold for less than other bikes, the dollar value of the British pound was much higher in 2014. The motorcycle is an extremely rare production by the famous British manufacturer Brough, featuring a 986cc V-twin engine, and was able to achieve a top speed of 210 km/h.

4. 1907 Harley-Davidson Strap Tank – $650,000

After being completely restored, with paint and original parts, experts estimated this 1907 bike to fetch between $800,000 and $1 million, but the final amount was much less, making it the most expensive motorcycle model to sell for less than the auction house estimated. It is also the most expensive Harley Davidson ever sold.

3. The 1939 Crocker V-Twin Big Tank – $704,000

This rare and valuable bike was sold for a value above all expectations for a staggering $704,000. In fact, the company only produced 72 V-twin motorcycles between 1936 and 1942, so owning such a beautiful and well-preserved model is a rare honor. The bike is more than 80 years old and still intact, with a 62 cubic inch 60 horsepower engine that made it one of the fastest and most exciting bikes of the era, capable of reaching a top speed of 177 km/h.

2. 1915 Cyclone Board Track Racer – $852,500

It was previously considered the most expensive motorcycle ever sold at auction. There are 12 of them, and it's amazing to find a copy in such great condition. The fact that it was once owned by famous actor and contestant "Steve McQueen" makes it even more valuable. Attached to its attractive frame is a V-Twin engine that allowed it to reach a top speed of 179 km/h - an astonishing figure for a bike more than 100 years old.

1. 1951 Vincent Black Lightning – $929,000

No other motorcycle of the second half of the twentieth century could surpass the legendary status of Vincent Black Lightning. This super race bike came to set the Australian speed record in 1953 when it reached a top speed of 141.5 mph. It was sold in 2018 for $929,000.
