April 4, 2023

BMW Motorrad, the German motorcycle division of BMW, has announced that they will be fielding a rally team in 2024, starting with the Dakar Rally. The team is currently in talks with several riders and working to fill out a two-rider team, while the development of the bike, designated as the MT450RR, is well underway. This ambitious program has been running quietly for almost two years now and is set to make waves in the rally scene.

The Dakar Rally is widely regarded as the most grueling rally in the world, with competitors facing extreme conditions as they traverse some of the harshest terrain on the planet.

BMW Motorrad has a long and successful history in the Dakar Rally, with riders such as Richard Sainct, Cyril Despres, and Marc Coma winning multiple times on BMW bikes. With this new venture, BMW Motorrad is set to make a comeback in the rally scene after a hiatus of several years.

The development of the MT450RR has been underway for almost two years, and it promises to be a formidable machine. The bike has been designed from scratch, with input from BMW's off-road racing experts and rider feedback.

The team is currently in talks with several riders, both established names and up-and-coming talents. The goal is to put together a two-rider team that can compete at the highest level and challenge for the win in the Dakar Rally. The team's rider selection process is rigorous, with BMW Motorrad looking for riders who have the skill, experience, and determination to succeed in the Dakar Rally. The team is also looking for riders who can provide valuable feedback to help further develop the MT450RR.
